There are many legends concerning the background of the Celtic Crosss. One interpretation portrays the circle as the eternal and endless love of God's love shown to humanity through Christ's sacrifice on the cross. It is also recognized as a halo. The cross shows the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ to bring eternal hope of salvation to mankind.
A popular belief concerns St. Patrick. While preaching to the Druids of Ireland, he was near a sacred stone that was made with a circle symbolic of the moon goddess. St. Patrick carved into this stone a Latin cross over the circle, using this as a means of conveying the importance of Christianity into their lives.
